[Financial News] Hanwha Group's signature social contribution event, the Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026 with Hanwha, has successfully concluded with around 1 million citizens attending. Hanwha invested 13 billion won in this year's event and deployed the largest-ever safety workforce.
Hanwha announced on the 6th that the Seoul International Fireworks Festival, held on the 5th around Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul, concluded with approximately 1 million visitors in attendance.
Hanwha Group covered the entire 13 billion won cost of this year's event. Of that amount, 4.5 billion won was spent on safety management, up about 17% from last year's 3.85 billion won. More than 5,000 personnel were deployed for safety management and crowd control, including approximately 1,200 Hanwha employee volunteers. This was the largest deployment ever. Hanwha operated a joint situation room with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Fire and Disaster Headquarters, and Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, among other relevant agencies. It also used a crowd-management system linked to telecommunications companies.
Crowd density was monitored and dispersal efforts were supported through the Orange Safety app, which measures real-time crowd concentration, and an integrated CCTV control system using KT's 5G network slicing technology.
For citizens unable to attend in person, Hanwha livestreamed the event through its group YouTube channel, Hanwha TV, and other platforms. The livestream recorded 2.68 million views and a peak of 260,000 simultaneous viewers. More than 300 veterans and other members of veterans' families were also invited separately.
Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-yeon said ahead of this year's festival, "The reason Hanwha launches fireworks into the sky is that they represent happiness that everyone looking up at the sky can share, and we want to pass that happiness on." Hanwha said he also called for the festival to be operated safely.
The fireworks festival, now in its 22nd year, featured fireworks teams from South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Hanwha, representing South Korea, presented a fireworks show themed "Puzzle of Light," inspired by Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night.
This year, a new production using Wonhyo Bridge was introduced. The program featured "Decalcomania," in which fireworks were set off symmetrically in the sky on both sides of the Han River around Wonhyo Bridge, and "Tower Fireworks," which incorporated the bridge's structure. Fireworks forming the phrases "SEOUL" and "WE ARE HANWHA" were also displayed.
Hanwha Group has continued the festival for more than 20 years since launching the first Seoul International Fireworks Festival in 2000, excluding periods when the event could not be held, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the event ended, Hanwha employee volunteers also conducted a "Clean Campaign" to collect litter around Yeouido Hangang Park.
