Soongsil University, Welcome Financial Group Launch Department of Digital Finance and AI

[Financial News] Soongsil University is partnering with Welcome Financial Group to train professionals who can integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into financial operations.
Soongsil University announced on the 6th that it will establish the Department of Digital Finance and AI, a master’s-level contract-based department at its Graduate School, beginning in September 2026.
The Department of Digital Finance and AI is an industry-sponsored contract-based department established under the Higher Education Act. It is a master’s program designed for working professionals, enabling employees of Welcome Financial Group to develop specialized AI skills while continuing their jobs. The two institutions began discussing the department’s establishment in 2025, completed the reporting process with the Ministry of Education, and signed a memorandum of understanding on the 1st.
Classes will be held on weekday evenings and Saturdays, taking employees’ work schedules into account. Students must complete at least 24 credits over four semesters, pass a comprehensive examination, and submit a graduation thesis to earn a master’s degree.
The curriculum focuses on strengthening practical skills for applying AI technologies to real-world financial operations. Four courses will be offered in the first semester: AI business strategy and financial applications, practical applications of generative AI, data-driven decision-making, and AI service architecture.
Students will then receive step-by-step training in strategies for building and operating finance-specialized large language models (LLMs), AI governance and regulatory compliance, AI organization management, AI-based financial data platform strategies, financial regulations and standards for using generative AI, and the design and operation of AI agents.
Faculty from Soongsil University’s School of AI Software, Department of Information Security, Department of Business Administration, and Department of AI Convergence Security at the Graduate School of AI will participate in operating the department. The program combines technology and business fields, covering AI security, natural language processing and foundation models, edge AI, digital marketing, and information security.
Meanwhile, Soongsil University has expanded its information technology education by establishing the Department of Electronic Computing in 1970 and later launching its College of IT. Beginning with the 2026 academic year, it has also established and operated the College of AI and the Graduate School of AI. Through the new contract-based department, Soongsil University plans to expand practice-oriented education that connects its AI education and research capabilities with the financial industry.
