Iran Issues 'Stern Warning,' Says South Korea's Involvement in Strait of Hormuz Would Be Considered 'Participation in War'

[Financial News] Iran has issued a stern warning that it would consider South Korea's deployment of troops to the Strait of Hormuz as "participation in war."
Al Mayadeen, a pro-Hezbollah Lebanese outlet, reported on the 4th local time that a senior official in Iran's security and political establishment said in an interview, "South Korea should not yield to pressure to cooperate with the United States in its illegal military operations." The official added, "The root cause of the instability in the Strait of Hormuz is the aggressive conduct of the United States and Israel," and urged, "Do not sacrifice South Korea's interests and reputation for the United States."
The official particularly emphasized, "If South Korea confronts Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, this would constitute direct military aggression and participation in war," adding, "We will not tolerate any conspiracy that violates the rights of the Iranian people." The official further said that restoring regional security would be impossible as long as United States intervention and economic sanctions against Iran continue.
Fars News Agency also reported the remarks, citing Al Mayadeen. The outlet said, "Cheong Wa Dae hinted at the possibility of deploying a search-and-rescue unit to the Strait of Hormuz, while saying that no decision had been made in response to pressure from United States President Donald Trump."
Meanwhile, a Cheong Wa Dae official said on the 4th regarding whether to deploy troops to the Strait of Hormuz, "We have room to maneuver as long as there is no significant damage to our readiness posture on the Korean Peninsula." The official added that the government was reviewing various options, giving top priority to readiness on the Korean Peninsula in order to find ways to make a practical contribution.
