Wonju-si Sees Positive Sign for Securing National Funding in 2027 as Key Projects Included Extensively in Government Budget Proposal

【Financial News Wonju = Reporter Kim Ki-seop】Wonju-si has secured the inclusion of numerous key projects for 2027, which are expected to drive the region’s future growth, in the government budget proposal, signaling a positive outlook for securing national funding.
According to Wonju-si on the 6th, the government budget proposal includes a range of projects aimed at strengthening the region’s growth foundation and improving living conditions. These include fostering future advanced industries such as semiconductors and digital healthcare, expanding metropolitan transportation networks, and creating leisure spaces for residents.
In the future advanced industries sector, the proposal includes 6.4 billion won for Process Innovation Technology Development for Advanced Ceramic Semiconductor Materials and Components, 8.22 billion won for the construction of the Eco-friendly Digital Healthcare Industry Support Center, and 1 billion won for Establishment of a Global Commercialization Base for AI-Converged Aesthetic Medical Devices.
Projects to expand transportation networks and improve daily-life infrastructure were also included. The Yeoju–Wonju Double-Track Railway project received an allocation of 190 billion won, an increase of 77.7 billion won from the previous year. In addition, the proposal includes the expansion of the Munmak–Heungeop Section to six lanes, with a total project cost of 75.2 billion won, as part of the Sixth National Road and Local Road Construction Plan. It also allocates 0.99 billion won for the creation of a National Ecological Trail and 6.4 billion won for the development of a Culture-Leading Industrial Complex, which will transform an aging industrial complex into an innovative space. These projects are expected to help improve living conditions for residents.
The achievement was supported by Wonju-si’s continued efforts to secure national funding, as well as close cooperation with the local political community and lawmakers with ties to Wonju. Led by the mayor and deputy mayor, the city made a series of visits to central government ministries and the National Assembly to explain the need for major pending projects and request national funding. Park Jeong-ha, a lawmaker representing Wonju A, and Song Ki-heon, a lawmaker representing Wonju B, along with other lawmakers with ties to Wonju, also lent their support.
Wonju-si plans to work to ensure that the project funding included in the government budget proposal is finalized without disruption during National Assembly deliberations. At the same time, it will cooperate with local lawmakers and lawmakers with ties to Wonju to seek additional increases and new inclusions during the parliamentary review stage for some pending projects not included in the government proposal.
Wonju-si Mayor Goo Ja-yeol said, "The fact that pending regional projects, ranging from advanced industries to transportation networks, were broadly included in the government budget proposal is thanks to the cooperation of the local political community and lawmakers with ties to Wonju." He added, "We will remain fully committed until the National Assembly gives its final approval and secure as much national funding as possible for the region."
