Putin, after meeting Trump’s envoy: "The situation is difficult, but we will resolve it"

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on the 5th that he would discuss all aspects of ending the war with the United States and Ukraine. He made the remarks during a meeting with an envoy dispatched by President Donald Trump.
According to TASS and RIA Novosti, President Putin met with Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner at the Kremlin that afternoon to discuss ways to end the war. Russia was represented by foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, the president and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), who also serves as an economic envoy.
Putin met the envoys at the Red Reception Room in the Catherine Hall of the Kremlin. He said, "President Trump has not stopped his efforts to help resolve the conflict," adding, "The situation to be discussed at this meeting is difficult, but we must resolve this issue today." He continued, "The level of mediation and trust in the mediator are extremely important," and added that he had great trust in the U.S. envoys.
He said he understood that the envoys planned to travel to Kyiv after visiting Moscow, and promised to ensure their safety and the negotiations.
Putin said Russia had agreed to halt attacks on Kyiv for three days starting that day, while Ukraine had reduced its attacks on Russia to about 10% of the previous level. He added, however, that Russia had rejected Ukraine’s request for a broad three-day ceasefire.
Envoy Steve Witkoff thanked Putin for agreeing to the three-day ceasefire, saying that it would allow him to fly safely during that period. He also expressed gratitude for the release and return home last month of Robert Gilman, an American and former U.S. Marine who was arrested in January 2022 and detained in Russia for more than four years.
This was the sixth time Putin had met with U.S. envoys.
No specific details on ending the war were disclosed during the envoys’ visit.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed, "As President Trump mentioned, no new proposal is being presented today," adding, "We should not jump to conclusions and should wait for the outcome of the talks."
Meanwhile, the U.S. envoys will visit Ukraine on the 6th for the first time since the war began. They plan to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the capital, Kyiv.
