Novice Hikers Relying on AI Become Stranded at 4,000-Meter Elevation in the U.S.

[Financial News] Three novice American hikers became stranded at an elevation of 4,000 meters after setting out on a hike based on information from Google's artificial intelligence (AI) model, Gemini.
According to foreign media reports on the 4th (local time), the U.S. Forest Service mountain rescue team rescued three young men who had become stranded after leaving the trail on Mount Shasta in California on the 31st of last month. Mount Shasta rises more than 4,000 meters above sea level and has many rugged areas.
The hikers reportedly packed their equipment and planned their route according to information provided by Gemini. They set out with less food and water than they actually needed.
They established a base camp at an elevation of 8,400 feet (approximately 2,560 meters) on the 29th of last month. The following day, they headed for the summit at 3 a.m. carrying daypacks. They expected the climb to the summit to take eight hours, but arrived only at 7 p.m., 16 hours later.
They ultimately had to descend at night, but their phones ran out of battery, preventing them from using a hiking application.
They waited for rescue without warm clothing or emergency food. During the descent, one member of the group injured his knee.
The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office emphasized, "Getting lost and entering dangerous terrain such as Mud Creek can lead to serious accidents or death," adding, "People should not plan trips based solely on AI or rely only on their phones or GPS devices."
