[Financial News] Attorney Park Min-cheol, who became known for appearing on entertainment programs, is leaving Kim & Chang after 18 years to establish and operate his own law firm.
According to the YouTube channel "Park Min-cheol's Michigo" on the 5th, Park launched the channel on the 3rd and announced his departure in its first video, titled "I Left Kim & Chang."
In the video, Park said, "This is the 22nd year since I began commuting to Gwanghwamun every morning, and the 18th year since I began commuting to Kim & Chang. Yet this is the year I will no longer be coming here to work in the morning."
He continued, "Parting ways with Kim & Chang is not simply a separation between one person and a company. It is a farewell to a very large part of my life."
He also shed tears at his farewell gathering. Park described working on Kim & Chang's Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) team as "the best choice I have ever made in my life," and summed up his departure by saying, "TMT again, even if I were born again."
Park's junior colleagues expressed their regret, saying, "I don't think there will ever be another person like you," and, "You are a lawyer unlike any other, yet the most lawyer-like lawyer of all."
Park will establish his own law firm and become independent after leaving Kim & Chang. Explaining why he chose to start a personal practice despite receiving offers from several other law firms, he said, "I have reached a point where it is difficult for me to accept doing things according to someone else's instructions or guidelines."
Park became known to the public after providing legal consultations to couples facing divorce on JTBC's 'Divorce Re-Boot Camp.' He later drew attention for his witty remarks and appeared on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' SBS's 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny,' and 'My Little Old Boy.'

Park attracted attention when attorney fees came up on tvN's entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block' last April.

Park said, "Law firm attorneys each have their own rate, known as a rate." When he added, "It is difficult to give an exact figure, but it is between one and one and a half jang," host Yoo Jae-suk responded, "1.3 million won."
In response, Park explained, "It varies depending on seniority. Two years ago, when I appeared on the JTBC entertainment program 'Knowing Bros,' I said it was a little over one jang, but it has increased a bit since then. It has become more expensive," indirectly indicating that his annual fee level is in the hundreds of millions of won.
