North Korea to Send Vice-Ministerial Official to UN General Assembly This Month—Will It Deliver a Message?

[Financial News] North Korea is reportedly set to send a vice-ministerial-level senior official to the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York late this month.
According to the United Nations Secretariat's latest list of speakers released on the 4th local time, a vice-ministerial-level official is scheduled to address the General Assembly on the 28th, the final day of the high-level segment of the 81st session, representing North Korea.
Kim Son Gyong, vice foreign minister in charge of international organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is expected to attend the General Assembly.
For six years, from 2019 through 2024, North Korea did not send a senior official after the collapse of the 2019 North Korea–United States Hanoi Summit during the first administration of President Donald Trump. Instead, Kim Song, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, delivered its address at the General Assembly.
Last year, North Korea sent a high-level delegation to the General Assembly for the first time in seven years, led by Vice Foreign Minister Kim Son Gyong. In her speech at the time, Kim reaffirmed North Korea's opposition to denuclearization, saying, "Denuclearization means giving up sovereignty and surrendering the right to survival."
As U.S. President Donald Trump has recently mentioned resuming dialogue with North Korea, attention is focused on what message the senior North Korean official will deliver on the international stage at the United Nations.
