[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung additionally designated all of Tongyeong-si, South Gyeongsang Province, as a special disaster area on the 4th after the city suffered extensive damage from torrential rain last month.
Kang Yoo-jung, a senior spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, said in a written briefing on the 4th that President Lee designated all of Tongyeong-si as a special disaster area at around 6 p.m. that day, based on the results of a central joint investigation. Tongyeong-si received torrential rain from the 15th to the 18th of last month.
The designation follows the government's initial designation on the 21st of last month of all of Geoje and Sanyang-eup and Bongpyeong-dong in Tongyeong-si as special disaster areas.
Given the scale of the damage, the government substantially extended the period for accepting damage reports to ensure that residents' losses were not overlooked.
Kang said, "The government will work to ensure that affected residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible by promptly establishing and supporting recovery plans."
