Kim Gwan-jeong, Kim Ji-yong, Moon Hong-ju and Lee Yun-je Named Candidates for Inaugural Head of Serious Crime Investigation Agency

[Financial News] Attorneys Kim Gwan-jeong, Kim Ji-yong and Moon Hong-ju, along with Myongji University professor Lee Yun-je, have been selected as candidates for the inaugural head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency.
The Candidate Recommendation Committee for the Head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency reviewed 11 candidates who agreed to the screening process from among those recommended by the public and recommended the four to Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-joong on the 4th. Yoon will formally propose one of the recommended candidates to the president.
The Candidate Recommendation Committee for the Head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency held a meeting at Government Complex Seoul that day and selected four candidates: Kim Gwan-jeong, managing attorney at Kim Gwan-jeong Law Office; Kim Ji-yong, an attorney at Apex Law Firm; Moon Hong-ju, an attorney at Ilseon Law Firm; and Lee Yun-je, a professor in the Department of Law at Myongji University.
The committee accepted public recommendations from the 19th to the 26th of last month. A total of 23 people were recommended, but 12 who did not agree to proceed with the screening were excluded, leaving 11 candidates for the actual review.
The committee said it conducted a comprehensive review based on the qualifications prescribed by law, as well as expertise and experience in investigating serious crimes, fairness, awareness of human rights, and the organizational-management skills needed to lead a newly established agency in a stable manner.
Lee Ju-won, chair of the Candidate Recommendation Committee, said, "All committee members conducted the review fairly, with a strong sense of responsibility, to find the right person to properly realize the prosecutorial reform principle of separating investigations from indictments." Lee added, "We recommended the most suitable candidates after considering the diverse opinions submitted through public recommendations, along with the qualities and capabilities required of the inaugural head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency."
With the committee’s recommendation process complete, the selection of the final candidate has been handed over to Minister Yoon. He is expected to formally propose one of the four recommended candidates to the president as the candidate for head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency.
Yoon said, "I will fully respect the Candidate Recommendation Committee’s recommendations, promptly formally propose one final candidate to the president, and make every effort to complete the follow-up procedures so that the Serious Crime Investigation Agency can successfully launch on October 2." The Serious Crime Investigation Agency will be inaugurated on October 2.
