[Financial News] The KOSPI Composite Index rebounded for a second consecutive session as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix both rose. Individual investors recorded more than 3.7 trillion won in net selling, but institutional investors, foreign investors and other corporations absorbed the selling pressure with net buying. The KOSDAQ rose nearly 3% and recovered the 800 level.
On the 4th, the KOSPI Composite Index closed at 6,687.21, up 107.73 points, or 1.64%, from the previous session. After plunging 3.99% on the 2nd, the index rose 0.26% the following day and extended its gains for a second straight session.
The index opened at 6,654.36, up 1.14% from the previous session, and climbed as high as 6,746.14 during the session. Its gain briefly reached 2.53%, but it did not maintain the entire advance through the close. The index remained below the 6,835.80 close recorded on the 1st, just before the sharp drop, recovering only part of its losses.
Large-cap semiconductor stocks by market capitalization performed strongly. Samsung Electronics rose 2.20% from the previous session to 255,500 won, while SK hynix gained 3.20% to 1.647 million won.
The contrast between large-cap and mid- and small-cap stocks was also clear. The KOSPI large-cap index rose 1.76%, while the mid-cap and small-cap indices gained 0.09% and 0.71%, respectively. Although the broader market advanced, the rebound was more pronounced among large-cap stocks.
Trading flows varied by investor group. Individual investors were net sellers of 3.7225 trillion won in the stock market. By contrast, institutions were net buyers of 1.6691 trillion won, while foreign investors purchased a net 503.4 billion won. Other corporations also recorded net buying of 1.5741 trillion won. It also recovered the 800 level, which it had surrendered at the previous day’s close, in just one session. KOSDAQ trading value was approximately 6.6492 trillion won, up 34.9% from approximately 4.9287 trillion won the previous day.
