[Financial News] Police are moving to establish a dedicated organization to oversee the progress of missing-person cases and direct regional-level investigations.
The Korean National Police Agency said on the 4th that it had decided to pursue the establishment of a dedicated organization to manage and oversee missing-person cases more systematically. The decision was made at a meeting to review measures for reforming missing-person investigations, chaired by acting Commissioner General Kim Jong-chul.
The police believe that an integrated and comprehensive response is difficult because searches and investigations are currently handled by the Criminal Affairs Bureau, while systems and policies are managed by the Public Safety and Transportation Bureau.
To address these structural problems, the police also decided to consider consolidating missing-person policies and search and investigation duties under the National Office of Investigation.
