Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Make Official Visit to South Korea Starting on the 6th

【HANOI, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok】Tran Thanh Man, chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, will make his first official visit to South Korea starting on the 6th. The visit is part of a tour of South Korea and Mongolia that will run from the 6th to the 11th.
According to Vietnamese local media on the 4th, Tran Thanh Man will make an official visit to South Korea starting on the 6th at the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Cho Jung-sik. He will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation.
Since establishing diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992, South Korea and Vietnam have developed substantive and comprehensive cooperation across various fields. In particular, the two countries have continued to broaden the scope of cooperation since upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.
The two countries are actively implementing the key agreements and areas of consultation reached during Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to South Korea in August last year and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit to Vietnam in April this year.
Cooperation between the two national assemblies is also producing increasingly substantive results. The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the National Assembly of Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in November 2025, establishing an institutional foundation for delegation exchanges, cooperation between specialized committees, and coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums.
South Korea is currently Vietnam’s second-largest investment partner, second-largest source of tourists, and second-largest ODA donor, as well as its third-largest trading partner and third-largest destination for labor migration. Bilateral trade reached $89.5 billion (approximately 121.4291 trillion won) in 2025, up 9.6% from the previous year. The cumulative total of exports and imports from January through July this year then surged 41% year on year to $70 billion (approximately 94.9725 trillion won).
South Korea is also the largest cumulative investor among the 154 countries that have invested in Vietnam. To date, South Korea’s cumulative registered investment in Vietnam has reached $102.6 billion (approximately 139.2025 trillion won), across 10,567 investment projects. In particular, science and technology cooperation is emerging as a new core pillar and a major area of achievement in bilateral relations. The two countries have agreed to expand cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, quantum technology, and semiconductors.
Tourism and people-to-people exchanges are also active. In 2025, 4.3 million South Korean tourists visited Vietnam, accounting for 21% of all foreign visitors to the country and making South Korea its second-largest tourism market.
As of the end of 2025, approximately 352,000 Vietnamese people were living in South Korea. About 200,000 South Koreans live in Vietnam, where they conduct business and engage in economic activities.
