[Financial News] A serving police officer was arrested on suspicion of molesting a woman at a restaurant.
According to police on the 4th, Seoul Dongjak Police Station arrested and questioned Senior Inspector A, a man in his 50s assigned to a local precinct under Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, on suspicion of forcible sexual assault.
Senior Inspector A was arrested as a flagrant offender the previous day on suspicion of forcibly touching a female customer at a restaurant in Seoul's Dongjak District. He was reportedly intoxicated at the time.
Senior Inspector A was released after questioning, but was reportedly removed from his current duties and placed on standby pending reassignment.
Yongsan Police Station in Seoul had initially planned to hold a "midnight resolution meeting" that day to analyze the cause of the incident and discuss measures to prevent a recurrence. However, the meeting was postponed because of events including the eve of the Seoul International Fireworks Festival, and the matter will instead be addressed at a later meeting chaired by the station chief.
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, the Korean National Police Agency issued a special alert to strengthen discipline among public officials, directing employees to refrain from drinking and company dinners through the 6th.
