Lee "Civil Society Has a Major Role in Broad Social Reforms and Has Also Played an Important Role in the History of Democratization"

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung met with representatives of civil society organizations on the 4th and said, "I believe civil society organizations will have a very significant role in the broad social reforms we must undertake going forward."
At a meeting with invited civil society representatives held at the main building of Cheong Wa Dae that day, President Lee Jae Myung said, "It is good to meet you all. In fact, I believe this may be the first time we have seen one another since December 3, 2024. You have all worked very hard," adding, "Civil society has always played a very important role in the history of democratization in South Korea."
President Lee Jae Myung said, "At the beginning of my term, I was so occupied with various matters that it was difficult to listen carefully to what you had to say. Today, I will make sure to listen attentively to your remarks."
He went on to emphasize that the direction pursued by civil society and the goals sought by the government are not fundamentally different. President Lee Jae Myung said, "The world you want or seek to create and the world I want to create will not be very different," adding, "The paths and methods for reaching those goals may differ somewhat, but I do not think the gap is significant."
He continued, "I believe your dream is to create a community in which everyone is treated fairly and with respect and lives together," adding, "I hope we can create a developing country where citizens have hope and a world in which fair and transparent systems operate by working together to develop good policies and programs."
Representatives of major civil society organizations attended the meeting, including Lawyers for a Democratic Society (MINBYUN), Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice (CCEJ), People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD), Korean Federation for Environmental Movement (KFEM), and Korean Women’s Associations United.
