551 Caught in Summer Drunk-Driving Crackdown in North Jeolla Province; Drunk-Driving Crashes Decline

【Financial News Jeonju=Kang In】 A total of 551 people were caught for drunk driving in North Jeolla Province this summer.
Despite an intensive police crackdown, drunk driving continues, underscoring the need for greater awareness and caution.
On the 4th, the Jeonbuk Police Agency announced the results of its “Intensive Summer Vacation-Season Drunk-Driving Crackdown,” conducted from July 1 to August 31.
The crackdown caught 551 people, including 256 whose licenses were suspended and 295 whose licenses were revoked.
There were 42 drunk-driving crashes during this period, down by eight, or 16%, from the same period last year. The number of people injured also fell by seven, or 9.6%, to 66. There were no fatal crashes.
The police are conducting ongoing crackdowns regardless of the time or location, including nationwide crackdowns, to raise awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.
Shin Hyo-seob, commissioner of the Jeonbuk Police Agency, said, “We will conduct continuous enforcement regardless of whether it is day or night and establish the perception that drunk driving can be detected anytime and anywhere.”
