Sanwoo Recruits Former Gangwon Governor Kim Jin-tae to Strengthen Criminal, Administrative and Public-Sector Advisory Practices [Law Firm News]

[Financial News] Sanwoo Law Firm has recruited attorney Kim Jin-tae, who served as the 39th governor of Gangwon State and the first governor of Gangwon State. With Kim, who has worked as a prosecutor, lawmaker and head of a metropolitan local government, joining the firm, Sanwoo plans to further strengthen its competitiveness in criminal and administrative litigation, as well as in advisory services for public institutions and local governments.
Kim worked as an advisory attorney at Sanwoo from 2021 before leaving the firm after being elected governor of Gangwon State in the eighth nationwide local elections in June 2022. After completing his four-year term as governor on June 30, he returned to Sanwoo four years after leaving the firm.
Kim, who is from Chuncheon, Gangwon State, graduated from Seongsu High School and Seoul National University College of Law. After passing the 28th National Bar Examination in 1986, he completed the 18th class at the Judicial Research and Training Institute and was appointed as a prosecutor in 1992.
During his prosecutorial career, he gained practical experience in criminal law while serving as director of the Organized Crime Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea (SPO), director of the Planning Division at the Legal Research and Training Institute, chief prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and head of the Wonju Branch of the Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office.
After leaving the prosecution in 2009 and opening his own law practice, Kim expanded his activities into politics. He was elected to the 19th and 20th National Assemblies from Chuncheon in 2012 and 2016, respectively, serving two consecutive terms as a lawmaker. He also served as a member and secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly.
After being elected governor of Gangwon State in 2022, Kim led efforts to launch Gangwon State and became its first governor in June 2023.
At Sanwoo, Kim is expected to handle criminal and administrative litigation, as well as advisory work for public institutions and local governments. In corporate matters, he is also expected to address complex legal issues involving administrative and policy matters linked to regulatory agencies and local governments, as well as criminal cases.
