Public Procurement Service Conducts Flood-Recovery Volunteer Work at Disaster Site in Geoje

[Financial News] The Public Procurement Service said on the 4th that it had visited a flood-damaged site in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, which suffered extensive damage from recent torrential rain, and carried out recovery support activities.
 The volunteer effort was joined by PPS Commissioner Baek Seung-bo, members of the agency’s volunteer club, and employees from the headquarters, the Gyeongnam Regional Office of Public Procurement Service, and the Busan Regional Office of Public Procurement Service. Participants removed mud and debris from the affected site, organized water-damaged goods, and assisted with recovery work.
 Commissioner Baek listened to residents’ difficulties and support needs during the recovery process. He also encouraged officials and volunteers working at the site.
 PPS had previously implemented emergency procurement support measures to facilitate the swift recovery of damage in special disaster areas, including Geoje and Tongyeong. It is helping simplify procurement procedures and shorten processing times by actively using emergency bidding and negotiated contracts.
 For emergency purchases of recovery supplies through the Nara Marketplace comprehensive shopping mall, exceptions are being granted to the second-stage competition under multiple-award schedule contracts. Inspections by PPS and specialized agencies have also been replaced with inspections and acceptance procedures conducted by the requesting institutions. In addition, procurement-fee payments are being deferred when requested by institutions located in special disaster areas and other designated regions. Procurement companies facing difficulties fulfilling contracts because of torrential rain are also receiving liquidity support, including extensions of delivery deadlines and expanded advance payments.
 Commissioner Baek said, "I offer my deepest condolences to the residents who are suffering from the sudden torrential rain," adding, "I hope this volunteer effort will provide even a small measure of help in restoring the damage and helping residents return to their daily lives."
