Samsung Electronics and SK hynix Extend Gains, Bringing KOSPI Close to 6,700; Individuals Net Sell 2.5 Trillion Won [Financial News Afternoon Market Update]

[Financial News] The KOSPI Composite Index came close to the 6,700 level during trading as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix both extended their gains. Foreign and institutional investors are buying, while individual investors are net sellers of nearly 2.5 trillion won in the stock market. KOSDAQ also rose more than 2%, recovering the 810 level.
As of 1:22 p.m. on the 4th, the KOSPI Composite Index stood at 6,688.83, up 109.35 points, or 1.66%, from the previous trading day. The index opened at 6,654.36, fell as low as 6,632.77 during the session, and then climbed to 6,697.60 as it attempted to reclaim the 6,700 level.
On the main stock market, foreign investors were net buyers of 356.5 billion won as of the same time. Institutions were also net buyers, purchasing 1.0522 trillion won. Among institutional investors, financial investment firms bought 745.5 billion won, while pension funds and others purchased 226 billion won. Individual investors, by contrast, were net sellers of 2.488 trillion won. Other corporations had a net buying balance of 1.0971 trillion won.
Among the largest companies by market capitalization, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix showed particularly strong performances. Samsung Electronics was trading at 256,500 won, up 2.60% from the previous trading day. SK hynix stood at 1.659 million won, up 3.95%.
Other large-cap stocks showed mixed performances. Naver (2.89%) and Celltrion (0.27%) were rising, while Shinhan Financial Group (-3.49%), KB Financial Group (-3.32%), Samsung Biologics (-2.64%), Samsung Life Insurance (-2.15%), and LG Energy Solution (-1.92%) were falling.
By market capitalization, the large-cap index rose 1.79%, while the mid-cap index fell 0.15%. The small-cap index gained 0.65%.
KOSDAQ (Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) stood at 811.28, up 21.07 points, or 2.67%, from the previous trading day. It fell as low as 798.97 during the session before rebounding and reaching as high as 813.27.
