[Financial News] VIG Partners, a leading domestic private equity firm, has completely reorganized its investment and portfolio management structure by simultaneously recruiting Vice President Yoo Shin-hyuk and General Manager Kang Sung-wook. The firm plans to break away from the practice of relying on specific star dealmakers and solidify a system where the entire process, from investment discovery to corporate value enhancement, is managed on a team basis. This move is also interpreted as a strategic step to strengthen the firm's financial capacity ahead of the launch of its next fund, as the utilization rate of its 5th fund is approaching 80%.
According to the investment banking (IB) industry on the 4th, VIG Partners has completed an organizational restructuring that includes recruiting new senior personnel, expanding the roles of existing staff, and reinforcing mid-level and junior personnel. The focus was on strengthening a structure where a single team takes full responsibility for investment review and post-merger management (PMI) from start to finish, rather than separating them.
Vice President Yoo, formerly of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), has joined VIG’s investment team to oversee new investment reviews and portfolio management. He has over 18 years of experience in M&A advisory and corporate strategy, having worked at Deutsche Bank, Valtek, and Roland Berger. At BCG, he participated in major domestic and international M&A projects, gaining experience in industry analysis, strategy formulation, and designing measures to enhance corporate value. His background in both investment banking and strategic consulting is expected to serve as a bridge between the deal sourcing and execution phases.
General Manager Kang is a professional executive with approximately 40 years of experience. He has served as the President of GE Healthcare Asia Pacific, President of GE Korea, and President of Cisco Systems Asia Pacific. Based in Singapore, General Manager Kang identifies overseas investment opportunities for VIG and supports portfolio companies' global expansion and cross-border M&A. He is also expected to directly participate in post-investment management, such as optimizing business operations and executing growth strategies, by collaborating with the management teams of portfolio companies.
The roles of internal personnel are also expanding. Senior Managing Directors Kang Ki-jung, Kim Kyu-myung, and Bae Jong-hyun, who have worked at VIG for over 10 years, will take a more leading role in identifying new investments and managing the existing portfolio alongside CEO Shin Chang-hoon and Vice President Yoo. Mid-level and junior personnel, such as Department Head Son Deok-su, who has experience founding startups and working as a McKinsey consultant, have also been added to boost capabilities in industry analysis and post-investment valuation. This reflects an intention to maintain organizational continuity by combining external recruitment with internal succession.
Shin Chang-hoon, CEO of VIG Partners, stated, "We will strengthen an operational system that generates results through team capabilities rather than specific individuals by recruiting new talent and expanding the roles of internal personnel."
VIG is currently executing investments through its 5th fund. It anticipates that the fund's utilization rate will reach approximately 80% once the recently confirmed investment in aerospace parts manufacturer Yulgok is completed. The company plans to proceed with the creation of a new fund after executing the remaining resources.
Meanwhile, VIG Partners is a leading domestic private equity firm established in 2005. Its portfolio includes Eastar Airlines, The Skin Factory (operator of the household goods brand Kundal), Teazen, and Biol Medical.
