[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung will make a state visit to France from the 6th to the 9th. He will co-chair the Lumière Summit, an international summit on film and video, with French President Emmanuel Macron. During their subsequent summit talks, the two leaders will seek to expand cooperation in security, the economy, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac announced the itinerary during a briefing at Chunchugwan on the 4th. The visit was arranged after President Macron, who visited South Korea in April, invited President Lee Jae Myung to serve as co-chair of the Lumière Summit and proposed a state visit.
After arriving in France on the evening of the 6th, President Lee Jae Myung will attend the Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence in southern France on the 7th as co-chair alongside President Macron. The two leaders will discuss the future of the global film and video industry and the direction of international cooperation.
Wi Sung-lac stated, "As co-hosts, we will take the lead in discussions on the future of the global film and video industry and further expand the foundation for K-content and Korean companies to enter European and global markets."
President Lee Jae Myung will carry out his state visit itinerary in Paris for two days beginning on the 8th. After laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beneath the Arc de Triomphe, he will attend an official welcoming ceremony and hold a private luncheon and an expanded summit meeting with President Macron at the Élysée Palace.
The two leaders are expected to strengthen the Korea-France Global Strategic Partnership, which was elevated in April, and discuss ways to coordinate their response to the rapidly changing international order. They will also discuss joint research and development (R&D), corporate cooperation, and ways to facilitate mutual market access in advanced technology fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), space, nuclear energy, and biotechnology. They will consult on institutional support measures to expand exchanges between the people of the two countries, including young people and science and technology professionals.
President Lee Jae Myung will attend a Korea-France business roundtable involving more than 20 companies from the two countries. In the evening, he will attend a state dinner hosted by President Macron and his spouse at the Élysée Palace.
On the final day, the 9th, he will meet with French National Assembly Speaker Bronpive, attend a luncheon meeting with Korean residents in France, and meet with the secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Wi Sung-lac said, "By completing reciprocal state visits with France within five months, we will build close relations with the leaders of major countries and further expand the strategic foundation of the Republic of Korea’s diplomacy. We will make this a starting point for laying the foundation for the next 140 years, based on the trust and friendship accumulated between Korea and France over the past 140 years."
