Cheong Wa Dae: "Deployment to the Strait of Hormuz Under Review; Nothing Has Been Decided"

[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said it is comprehensively reviewing military contribution options, including combat, noncombat and search operations, to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, it said that nothing has been decided yet. If troops are deployed, the government said it would consider domestic legal procedures, including maintaining readiness on the Korean Peninsula and obtaining parliamentary consent.
A senior Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House on the 4th, in response to a question about whether the government was considering deploying troops to the Strait of Hormuz, "Freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is extremely important to our national interests." The official added, "It is currently under review, and nothing has been decided, but we are continuing to examine it."
The official continued, "We have discussed substantive contributions several times, and substantive contributions include military contributions." The official explained, "There are also various forms of military contribution. Some involve participating in combat, while others are noncombat operations. There are many different possibilities. If the mission is limited to search operations, there could be various options, so we are comprehensively reviewing them now."
