KORAIL Installs 30 Benches Made from Recycled Plastic at Yongsan Station

[Financial News] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has installed benches made by recycling waste plastic at Yongsan Station as part of efforts to protect the environment.
KORAIL said it installed 30 upcycled benches in the second-floor concourse of Yongsan Station ahead of Resource Circulation Day on the 4th.
The installation marked the first result of the Upcycling Bench Project agreement signed by KORAIL, Emart and TerraCycle in June. Under the agreement, TerraCycle reprocessed waste plastic collected at Emart stores nationwide through the Take Plastics and Protect Ocean resource-circulation campaign, which began in 2018, into benches. The benches were then placed as rest areas for passengers at KORAIL's Yongsan Station.
Thirty 1.8-meter-long benches, each seating three people, were installed. They can accommodate a total of 90 people. Some benches also feature guidance stickers for people with reduced mobility, including older adults, pregnant women and people with disabilities, to improve convenience.
KORAIL plans to install more benches at major stations near the coast, starting with Yongsan Station.
A KORAIL official said, "The upcycled benches made from waste plastic add meaning to resource circulation while improving customer convenience." The official added, "We will continue to identify and expand eco-friendly activities that the public can experience firsthand."
