NANOSILIKHAN ADVANCED MATERIALS Files Patent for Integrated “Surface Modification and Carbon Coating” of Silicon Anode Material

[Financial News] NANOSILIKHAN ADVANCED MATERIALS, a secondary battery materials company, is stepping up its technological competitiveness by successively filing patents for core process technologies capable of lowering manufacturing costs and improving the performance of silicon anode materials. NANOSILIKHAN ADVANCED MATERIALS announced on the 4th that it submitted a written opinion to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) in response to an Office Action (OA) regarding its patent for a “silicon anode material manufacturing process,” filed late last year, and applied for priority examination. The patent covers a technology that performs surface modification and carbon coating simultaneously in a single process.
Conventional silicon anode manufacturing processes have primarily utilized a method of performing surface modification for performance improvement and carbon coating for conductivity separately. This approach can lead to process complexity and high manufacturing costs. NANOSILIKHAN ADVANCED MATERIALS aims to improve process efficiency and reduce costs by integrating these two processes into a single step.
In August, NANOSILIKHAN ADVANCED MATERIALS also filed two additional follow-up patents that supplement and improve upon existing patents. The second and third patents contain methods to precisely control and quantitatively measure changes in the silicon surface that occur during the process of simultaneously performing surface modification and carbon coating.
In particular, the third patent presented a technology that improves the problem of initial efficiency (ICE) degradation, which is a major technical challenge for silicon anode materials. It is a method that increases initial efficiency by applying a pre-lithiation process during the material manufacturing process.
NANOSILIKHAN ADVANCED MATERIALS plans to proactively secure core intellectual property (IP) related to the manufacturing of silicon anode materials through this series of patent applications. In particular, the company aims to strengthen its technological competitiveness in the next-generation battery materials market by simultaneously targeting key commercialization challenges, such as reducing manufacturing costs and improving initial efficiency.
