Busan Metropolitan Council’s Special Committee on Budget and Accounts to Conduct Comprehensive Review of This Year’s Third Supplementary Budget Proposal

[Financial News] The Busan Metropolitan Council’s Special Committee on Budget and Accounts announced on the 4th that it will begin a comprehensive review from the 8th to the 10th of the 2026 third supplementary budget proposals submitted by Busan and the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education.
The proposals under review total approximately KRW 714.4 billion, comprising KRW 637.4 billion for Busan’s third supplementary budget proposal and KRW 77 billion for the education office’s second supplementary budget proposal.
Busan’s supplementary budget proposal totals approximately KRW 19.4009 trillion, an increase of 3.4% (KRW 637.4 billion) from the original budget. It was drawn up with a focus on supporting the recovery of the local economy and stabilizing residents’ lives amid difficult economic conditions.
The education office’s supplementary budget proposal totals approximately KRW 5.7926 trillion, up 1.3% (KRW 77 billion) from the original budget. Its key priorities include strengthening core competencies for the future society, expanding educational welfare and safety nets, and supporting student development and school activities by creating a safe educational environment.
The Special Committee on Budget and Accounts plans to closely examine the budget proposals requested by the two institutions. The supplementary budget proposals approved by the committee are scheduled to be finalized at the council’s fourth plenary session on the 11th.
Hong-chan Choi, chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, emphasized, "Through this supplementary budget, we will actively include projects that support people’s livelihoods and serve as future growth engines for a new Busan. With a sense of responsibility that every tax dollar paid by each citizen is essentially my own money, we will carefully examine whether there are any unnecessary or nonurgent projects," adding, "A supplementary budget is intended to address urgent and unavoidable needs. We will rigorously assess the urgency and feasibility of each project."
