"Recycle Your Unused Smartphones and Laptops" SKT Launches Resource-Circulation Campaign

[Financial News] SKT held an e-waste resource-circulation campaign involving employees and future generations ahead of Resource Circulation Day on the 6th.
SKT said on the 4th that it held the resource-circulation campaign RE:FINE Day on the 3rd. RE:FINE Day was designed to put SKT’s circular-economy strategy, RE:FINE, into practice in daily life and expand it into environmental education for future generations.
The campaign consisted of an e-waste resource-circulation program for employees and their families, as well as an environmental education program for children at the company’s in-house daycare center.
SKT employees brought unused digital devices from their homes and offices, including smartphones, feature phones, tablets and laptops. REMANn collected the devices and securely deleted their data through specialized procedures.
The collected devices were inspected and sorted by condition. Those suitable for reuse were reused or remanufactured, while devices that were difficult to use were recycled into parts and raw materials.
SKT will assess the condition and utilization value of the recovered IT devices and provide remanufactured digital devices of equivalent value to children from vulnerable groups through the National Association of Local Children’s Centers. The company plans to help improve the children’s digital education and access to information by providing digital devices.
Employees who participated in the campaign received data-deletion reports, Carbon Neutrality Practice Points and donation certificates. An online campaign will also run through the 30th for employees and their families who were unable to participate in person.
The campaign was also held for employees of Yuhan-Kimberly, SKT’s ESG partnership company, on the same day.
Resource-circulation education was also provided for future generations. Children at SKT’s in-house daycare center learned about the value of resources and the meaning of the circular economy through lessons using environmental storybooks. They also learned ways to conserve resources and protect the environment in daily life through hands-on activities such as assembling picture puzzles and making upcycled planters.
Eom Jong-hwan, head of SKT’s Sustainability Management Office, said, "IT devices sleeping in drawers can be reborn as devices that support the growth of future generations if they undergo a secure process." He added, "In line with the growth of the ICT industry, we will continue expanding resource-circulation models, including the recycling of telecommunications infrastructure and eco-friendly distribution networks."
