Retail investors sell 460 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions buy: KOSPI rebounds, KOSDAQ reclaims 800

[Financial News] South Korean stocks are rising together in early trading. The KOSPI Composite Index has gained more than 1% to recover the 6,600 level, while the KOSDAQ has rebounded by more than 2% to reclaim 800. Retail investors are selling heavily, while foreign investors and institutions are both making net purchases, taking the opposite side of the trades.
As of 9:20 a.m. on the 4th, the Korea Exchange (KRX) reported that the KOSPI Composite Index stood at 6,667.81, up 88.33 points, or 1.34%, from the previous trading day. The index opened at 6,654.36 and climbed as high as 6,682.61 during the session. After plunging 3.99% on the 2nd and rising 0.26% the previous day, it continued its rebound on the 4th.
Supply and demand trends showed a clear divide between retail investors and foreign investors and institutions. As of 9:21 a.m., retail investors were recording net sales of 459.878 billion won in the stock market. Institutions, by contrast, were making net purchases worth 281.686 billion won, while foreign investors were buying a net 103.645 billion won. The two groups’ combined net purchases totaled approximately 385.3 billion won. Among institutions, financial investment firms made net purchases worth 166.9 billion won, while pension funds and others bought a net 101.1 billion won.
The KOSDAQ’s rebound was even stronger. The index stood at 808.01, up 17.80 points, or 2.25%, from the previous trading day. After falling as low as 790.21 the previous day, it opened at 802.32 and climbed to 808.57 during the session. The move marked an attempt to break a four-session losing streak.
Foreign investors also maintained a buying advantage on the KOSDAQ. At the same time, foreign investors were making net purchases worth 58.769 billion won, while institutions were buying a net 7.71 billion won. Retail investors were recording net sales of 60.515 billion won.
