Korea Heritage Service’s 2027 Budget Proposal Set at 1.6645 Trillion Won, Up 11.2%

[Financial News] The Korea Heritage Service’s 2027 budget proposal has been set at 1.6645 trillion won. That is an increase of 167.4 billion won, or 11.2%, from this year’s finalized budget of 1.4971 trillion won.
According to the Korea Heritage Service on the 4th, next year’s budget proposal focuses on strengthening the conservation and repair of national heritage and disaster response, while launching new programs centered on stays and tourism. The government proposal will be finalized after review by the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and the detailed amounts may change during the process.
By major area, 691 billion won was allocated to national heritage conservation and repair and the establishment of preservation infrastructure, while 147.2 billion won was earmarked for the preservation and utilization of palaces and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. The proposal also includes 131.1 billion won for national heritage utilization, 126.6 billion won for education, research and exhibitions, 100.2 billion won for disaster response, and 62.7 billion won for world heritage and international exchanges.
The conservation and repair budget accounts for 520.1 billion won, an increase of 84.8 billion won from this year. That represents 50.7% of the total increase. Disaster response funding will rise by 15.4 billion won to 100.2 billion won.
The budget for creating a national heritage flagship product center at Gyeongbokgung Palace is 11 billion won, up 10.2 billion won from this year. A total of 63.1 billion won was allocated for palace and royal tomb management and the development and operation of utilization content, while 7 billion won was earmarked for strengthening policies for socially disadvantaged groups. These amounts represent increases of 8.8 billion won and 3.5 billion won, respectively.
As a new initiative, 6.1 billion won was allocated to create the National Heritage Stay program. For the construction of the National Institute of Natural Heritage, 3.3 billion won was included out of the total project cost of 119.4 billion won.
A newly allocated 14 billion won will support the utilization of national heritage by type. The proposal includes 5.3 billion won for World Heritage Together, 2 billion won for the Promotion of Historical and Cultural Zones, and 1.7 billion won for developing the K-Pungnyu tourism brand.
The National Heritage Comma Project and Regional Exhibitions of Royal Culture each received 1.5 billion won, while National Heritage-Based Landmark Regeneration and K-Folk Village revitalization each received 1 billion won.
