Yim Si-wan Selected as Host of the Closing Ceremony of the 31st Busan International Film Festival

[Financial News] Actor Yim Si-wan has been selected as the sole host of the closing ceremony of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which will be held for ten days from the 6th to the 15th of next month.
The Busan International Film Festival office said on the 4th that Yim Si-wan was chosen to bring the festival to a close because his solid experience is expected to ensure reliable and steady hosting.
Yim Si-wan began his acting career with the 2012 drama Moon Embracing the Sun and immediately made a strong impression on the public with his assured acting. He later made his screen debut in The Attorney, delivering a powerful performance that completely shattered the limitations and prejudices associated with being an idol-turned-actor.
He went on to build a wide-ranging filmography across film, television, and OTT platforms through works including The Merciless (2017), Run On (2020), Boyhood (2023), and Unlocked (2023). In particular, his consecutive appearances in Seasons 2 and 3 of the globally popular Squid Game strengthened his standing as a global star. Through diverse projects, including the film Mantis (2025), he has also demonstrated an acting range spanning both conventional dramas and genre productions.
His remarkable achievements have earned him honors at major domestic award ceremonies, including the Popular Star Award at the 2014 Blue Dragon Film Awards, the Best New Actor in Television Award at the 2015 Baeksang Arts Awards, the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 2022 Buil Film Awards, and the Best Actor Award at the 2024 Blue Dragon Series Awards.
A festival office official said, "The selection of the host followed careful consideration of actor Yim Si-wan’s career and his ability to move audiences deeply through performances that penetrate the essence of his characters." The official added, "We expect his reliable and steady hosting to heighten the honor and emotion of the Busan Award in the competition section and bring the festival to a close."
