Hyundai Motor Group Partners with Oman to Demonstrate Eco-Friendly Mobility... “Accelerating the Transition to Carbon Neutrality”

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Group is working to expand eco-friendly transportation in Oman in the Middle East.
Hyundai Motor Group said on the 4th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on eco-friendly mobility cooperation with Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and local energy distributor OOMCO at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex in Salalah on the 3rd (local time). The partnership is intended to support Oman’s economic diversification plan, Oman Vision 2040, and the country’s transition to carbon neutrality.
The signing ceremony was attended by Khamis Al-Shamkhi, deputy minister for transport at Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology; Tariq Al Junaidi, chief executive officer (CEO) of OOMCO; and Jung Ho-geun, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Future Strategy Office.
The partnership will begin by introducing sustainable mobility solutions in public transportation and public services in cooperation with major Omani public institutions, before gradually expanding across Oman’s overall mobility market.
There are two key elements. First, Oman National Transport Company (Mwasalat) will designate one of the public transportation routes in the capital, Muscat, as a “green route” exclusively for eco-friendly vehicles. Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen fuel-cell bus, Hyundai Elec City, will be deployed for pilot operations on the route. This marks the first time hydrogen city buses have been introduced in Oman.
Electric vehicle charging infrastructure will also be developed. OOMCO, a distribution affiliate of Oman’s state-owned energy group OQ, will install and operate Hyundai KEFICO’s 240-kilowatt ultra-fast chargers at a gas station in Halban through its eco-friendly charging subsidiary EVO. After monitoring charging performance and user demand for six months, the company plans to decide whether to expand the program.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to expand the partnership beyond public transportation into the general commercial vehicle and passenger car markets.
Jung Ho-geun said, “It is meaningful to establish a strategic partnership with Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. We will work together to ensure that Oman’s bold vision for smart cities and future mobility leads to tangible results.”
