Teenage Female Student Attacked in Uruguayan Medical School Classroom; Classmate’s Knife Rampage Driven by ‘Obsession’

[Financial News] A shocking incident occurred in a classroom at a prestigious national university in the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, where a teenage male student attacked a female classmate with a knife, seriously injuring her. Police are investigating the case as an attempted femicide.
South American media outlets, including the Argentine daily La Voz, reported on the 2nd (local time) that a brutal attack involving teenage students occurred in a classroom at the University of the Republic Faculty of Medicine in the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
The 19-year-old man identified as the suspect entered the classroom where his female classmate, also 19, was present. He approached her, pulled a weapon from inside his coat, and attacked her.
La Voz reported that the attack continued even after the victim collapsed. Other students at the scene immediately intervened, assaulted the suspect, and restrained him until police arrived.
The attack left the victim with two lacerations on her face, multiple cuts to her neck, and severe injuries to the tendons, muscles, and bones in her right arm. She was taken to the emergency room and is currently receiving intensive treatment and observation at a hospital. Her life is not in danger.
An official from the Montevideo Police Department said at a press conference that the investigation is primarily focused on an attempted femicide.
According to people close to the victim, the two had never been romantically involved or shared any special relationship. However, the suspect reportedly began showing a one-sided obsession with her early this year.
Forensic investigators are currently examining the scene, while the suspect has been handed over to judicial authorities and is awaiting formal charges.
As news of the incident spread, the suspect’s history of violence also came to light. Former classmates from Salinas No. 1 High School, where he graduated, issued a public statement accusing him of past criminal conduct.
According to the statement written by his former classmates, the suspect repeatedly threatened, sexually harassed, and abused several female students during his school years. The classmates testified that he habitually made threatening remarks such as, "All women should be killed."
