[Financial News] An accident occurred at a motel in Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi Province, where a man and woman in their 30s fell into critical condition after being poisoned by carbon monoxide. The National Police Agency is investigating the cause of the gas leak, as well as whether the response of the officers dispatched to the scene at the time of the initial report was appropriate.
According to the National Police Agency and others on the 4th, at around 7:50 p.m. on the 30th of last month, a 112 Police Emergency Number report was received from a motel in Uijeongbu-si stating, “The guest has passed check-out time but is not answering the intercom, and there is no sign of anyone even when knocking on the door.”
The National Police Agency officers dispatched after receiving the report opened the room door and checked inside together with a motel employee.
The man and woman in their 30s who were in the room at the time were reportedly asleep without noticing that someone had entered.
The National Police Agency officers withdrew after determining that there were no unusual circumstances, such as signs of criminal activity, at the scene.
However, at around 7 a.m. the following day, the 31st of last month, another 112 Police Emergency Number report was received stating that the same guests were still not coming out of the room.
When the National Police Agency officers re-entered the room to check, they found the guests collapsed and unconscious, with foam at their mouths.
The two individuals were found to have been poisoned by carbon monoxide inside the motel. The man has not yet regained consciousness, while the woman is reportedly able to communicate.
The National Police Agency is investigating how carbon monoxide was generated or entered the motel, while also examining whether the on-site actions taken by the responding officers at the time of the initial report were appropriate.
