Foreign Minister Cho Hyun: "North Korea-U.S. Dialogue Must Open the Way to Complete Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula"

[Financial News] Foreign Minister Cho Hyun stated that he hopes the North Korea-U.S. summit will pave the way for the "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" and permanent peace.
Minister Cho stated this during a keynote speech at the 'Seoul Diplomacy Forum 2026' held at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) in Seocho District, Seoul, on the 3rd, saying, "I note U.S. President Donald Trump's continued interest in peace on the Korean Peninsula and his willingness to resume dialogue with North Korea."
He continued by emphasizing, "I hope that the good relationship between the leaders of North Korea and the United States will lead to meaningful dialogue between the two countries," adding, "I hope that the North Korea-U.S. dialogue will pave the way for the 'complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula' and lasting peace, and the South Korean government will continue to cooperate closely with the United States in this regard."
However, ahead of the push for a North Korea-U.S. summit this coming November, President Trump has recently been avoiding giving answers regarding the issue of North Korea's denuclearization. In contrast, the United States Department of State (State Department), unlike President Trump, reaffirmed its existing principles by stating, "The United States remains committed to the complete denuclearization of North Korea." Minister Cho has effectively agreed with the State Department's stance on the complete denuclearization of North Korea. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is pushing back against the United States through a statement, asserting that "possessing nuclear weapons is a legitimate choice."
