[Financial News] Dermatologist and broadcaster Ham Ik-byeong offered advice on work and asset management to people in their 20s who aspire to financial freedom.
He believes that young people need to focus on work rather than prioritize work-life balance.
Ham, who is also known as a wealthy investor, appeared on the YouTube channel 'Wolgeupjaengi Bujadeul TV,' which has 2.11 million subscribers, on the 2nd and discussed how younger generations manage their assets.
Ham first said, "Minimize the variables in your life." He continued, "Set a direction, find someone or something successful within it, and benchmark 90% of that model."
He advised office workers to use their time at a company as preparation for starting a business. Ham said, "You should prepare to start a business while working for a company," adding, "If you go to work thinking that you will eventually do your own thing, you will find things you need to study."
He also offered advice on financial attitudes among people in their 20s.
Ham cautioned against prioritizing work-life balance in one’s 20s. He said, "The reason people move farther away from financial freedom is that they disregard money."
He also said that earning money while young expands one’s options. Ham emphasized, "There are many things you have to do unwillingly when you are young," adding, "If you earn money when you are young, you become free from those things."
Ham also said that the experiences and assets accumulated in one’s 20s affect the rest of one’s life. He said, "What you accumulate from your 20s shapes your life after your 50s," adding that if people build a foundation in their 20s, they may reach a point in their 40s when leisure begins to outweigh work.
However, he clarified that he was not rejecting a life centered on work-life balance itself. Ham said, "If you pursued work-life balance and lived a satisfying life, then you should not lament having no money in your 50s."
