[Financial News] The large-scale media-art festival “Seoul Light DDP” opened on the 3rd. This year’s event, themed “The Light at the Beginning of Korean Culture,” reinterprets the artistic worlds of Nam June Paik and Yoo Youngkuk, along with Hangul song lyrics from “Cheongguyeongeon,” through media art.
The Seoul Design Foundation, which organized the event, explained that it transformed the entire DDP into a giant “venue of light” by combining live music, lasers, artificial intelligence (AI) video, and lighting.
This year’s festival will also present real-time responsive media art combining musical performances with media art for the first time. The DDP’s exterior-wall projections respond in real time to live artists’ music, creating a range of atmospheres.
The Seoul Design Foundation plans to operate “DDP 365 Light” every night as a permanent installation even after Seoul Light DDP ends on the 13th, turning DDP into a nighttime attraction in everyday life.
Cha Kang Heui, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, said, “Seoul Light DDP is nighttime-economy content that allows people to experience, in Seoul at night, the creativity of K-culture that has drawn global attention, while connecting culture and the arts with nearby food and beverage, shopping, and tourism. We will expand DDP into Seoul’s leading cultural and tourism platform at night.”
