Hanyang University ERICA and Neo Trans to Tackle Shinbundang Line Field Problems with Robotics and AI

[Financial News] Hanyang University ERICA Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and Neo Trans, the operator of the Shinbundang Line, are launching industry-academic cooperation to develop robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and train specialists in the railway and mobility sectors.
Hanyang University ERICA Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation announced on the 3rd that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Neo Trans on August 25 to promote technological innovation in the future railway and mobility industries and train robotics specialists.
The two institutions plan to reflect companies’ field needs in education and research while gradually expanding their cooperation from technology development to technology commercialization and employment. Areas of cooperation will include railway and mobility operations and safety, facility inspections, automated maintenance, robotics, AI, data analysis, and digital twins.
As their first joint project, they will operate an industry-linked capstone design program through the Hanyang University ERICA Department of Robotics. In this practical course, students will use real-world problems from the company as project assignments, design solutions, and carry out prototype production and verification.
Neo Trans will propose technology projects needed in railway and mobility operations and support mentoring and special lectures by industry experts, field trips, technical consultations, and interim and final evaluations. The Hanyang University ERICA Department of Robotics will organize student teams, provide faculty guidance, operate the curriculum, and manage outcomes.
Students will undertake projects that use robotics and AI to solve operational, safety, inspection, and maintenance problems encountered by Neo Trans in actual railway and mobility operations.
The two institutions also agreed to jointly identify, plan, and carry out support programs run by the central government, local governments, and public institutions, as well as national research and development projects. They will strengthen employment connections for students through field training and internships, job mentoring, recruitment briefings, recommendations of outstanding talent, and the provision of employment information.
