‘Electrically Conductive Plastic’ Developer and Nobel Laureate Hideki Shirakawa Dies

【Financial News, Tokyo = Correspondent Hye-jin Seo】Hideki Shirakawa, a Japanese chemist and emeritus professor at the University of Tsukuba who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing “electrically conductive plastic,” has died. He was 90.
According to Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) on the 3rd, Professor Emeritus Shirakawa died at a hospital in Yokohama City on the 24th of last month.
Professor Emeritus Shirakawa challenged the conventional belief that “plastic does not conduct electricity” and successfully developed conductive polymers. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in recognition of this achievement.
