[Financial News] Samsung Electronics increased its share of the global high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market by 12 percentage points in the second quarter from the previous quarter. SK hynix retained the top spot in the global HBM market by revenue, but Samsung Electronics narrowed the gap.\u00a0
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 3rd, SK hynix maintained its lead in the global HBM market in the second quarter, with a 50% revenue-based share. However, this was down 8 percentage points from 58% in the first quarter.\u00a0
Samsung Electronics significantly increased its market share from 21% in the first quarter to 33% in the second quarter. Compared with the first quarter of last year, its share rose by as much as 18 percentage points.\u00a0
Counterpoint Research forecast that Samsung Electronics’ share will gradually increase further as the company ramps up shipments of High Bandwidth Memory 4.
Micron Technology, which ranked third, saw its share edge down to 18% from 21% in the previous quarter.
According to Counterpoint Research, most HBM revenue currently comes from HBM3E, the fifth-generation product. Shipments of High Bandwidth Memory 4, the sixth-generation product, are expected to become more visible in the second half of this year.
