【Financial News Gwangyang = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority will host the Gwangyang Bay Area Foreign Investment Promotion Forum on the 9th at the Grand Ballroom of Sono Calm Hotel in Yeosu.
The forum is being held in connection with the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition. According to the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority, it aims to showcase the Gwangyang Bay Area’s outstanding investment environment and strategic industries by inviting domestic and overseas companies, foreign chambers of commerce in Korea, global companies, and representatives of relevant investment-attraction organizations.
Under the theme “New Opportunities for Attracting Foreign Investment in the Gwangyang Bay Area in the Era of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City,” the forum will feature presentations and panel discussions on KOTRA and local governments’ cooperation strategies for promoting foreign investment in the Gwangyang Bay Area; “The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone (GFEZ) Through the Eyes of Global Anchor Companies: Why the Gwangyang Bay Area?”; and measures to promote strategic industries in the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone, the industrial hub of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.
Side events will also include tours of major industrial investment sites in the Gwangyang Bay Area, including the Port of Gwangyang and Yulchon Industrial Complex, for key foreign guests. A job fair for international students in the eastern Jeonnam-Gwangju region, organized jointly with Sunchon National University, will also be held.
Koo Choong-gon, head of the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority, said, “This forum is an important opportunity to expand our global network with domestic and overseas companies and foreign chambers of commerce in Korea, while showcasing the Gwangyang Bay Area’s investment appeal in connection with the Yeosu World Island Exhibition. We hope that interested businesspeople will participate.”
Meanwhile, on the 8th, the day before the forum, the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority plans to tour the Yeosu World Island Exhibition venue with representatives of major foreign-invested companies. It will introduce the appeal of Yeosu and the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, which connect islands, the sea, and the future.
