【Financial News Ulsan=Reporter Choi Su-sang】 Ulsan District Court Judge Song In-cheol of the Criminal Division 9 found defendant A, a man in his 40s, guilty of violating the Emergency Medical Service Act and other charges and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, the court said on the 3rd.
Defendant A verbally abused medical staff and assaulted them, including by pushing a doctor, at the emergency room of a general hospital in Ulsan last December.
Defendant A had visited the emergency room after suffering a head injury that day. While waiting, he tried to go outside to smoke, but security personnel and a nurse stopped him. He then caused a disturbance by behaving violently and removing his own bandage used to stop the bleeding.
The court explained its decision, stating, "The defendant has been punished several times for violent offenses and committed this crime during a period of repeat offending. We took into consideration that he admitted his wrongdoing and showed remorse."
