【Financial News, Jeonju = Kang In】 A woman in her 20s who caused a traffic accident while driving without a license and induced her boyfriend, who was riding with her, to make a false confession has been indicted while detained.
The Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office said on the 3rd that it had indicted A, 23, while detained on charges including inducing another person to help a criminal evade justice and perjury.
A is accused of causing a traffic accident while driving without a license on July 21, 2024, and arranging for her boyfriend, B, 25, who was riding in the vehicle with her, to falsely confess that he had been driving in order to avoid punishment.
B initially claimed that he had been driving, but changed his testimony during the trial out of concern that he could face a heavier sentence.
The prosecution also confirmed that the location of A’s injuries was more likely to have resulted from her being in the driver’s seat rather than the passenger seat.
B was subsequently sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for one year, for harboring a criminal and aiding and abetting unlicensed driving. The sentence was finalized.
After her own crime came to light, A also evaded contact with investigative authorities and remained on the run for several months.
In the end, however, she was caught by prosecutors and sent to trial while detained.
A prosecution official said, "We will do our utmost to uncover the substantive truth in crimes that undermine the judicial order."
