[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 3rd, regarding the tugboat capsizing accident in the waters off Busan, "Please make every effort to search for the missing, while also paying close attention to the safety of rescue personnel."
President Lee chaired the 45th Senior Secretaries’ Meeting at Cheong Wa Dae that day and said, "One person has died and six others remain missing following yesterday’s tugboat capsizing accident in the waters off Busan." He added, "I offer my condolences to the deceased and extend my deepest sympathies to the bereaved and the families of those who remain missing." He continued, "We need to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and, at the same time, promptly establish measures to prevent a recurrence."
Regarding the recent heavy rains, he also noted, "The heavy rain from last weekend through the beginning of this week caused major and minor damage in some areas." He pointed out that "because of abnormal weather patterns, torrential rain from late summer through early autumn has been recurring every year."
He urged officials, saying, "Please remain vigilant during this period and make every effort to prevent flood damage." He emphasized, "In particular, we must take thorough measures to manage facilities so that farms preparing for the autumn harvest do not suffer damage."
He also called for safety measures for this weekend’s Seoul International Fireworks Festival in Yeouido and for autumn regional festivals. President Lee said, "Nearly one million people attend every year, so there must not be even the slightest lapse in the safety plan." He added, "Please ensure that relevant ministries and local governments communicate and cooperate closely to establish thorough measures for crowd management and facility safety, leaving no gaps."
He continued, "Typically, festivals are held intensively across the country during this period, and traffic volumes also increase nationwide." He said, "We must begin proactively and meticulously reviewing preventive measures for all kinds of safety accidents from now on."
