President Lee: "Police Must Pursue Internal Self-Correction and Institutional Reform with a Determination to Undertake Painful Self-Reform"

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung emphasized on the 3rd, "The police must use a series of incidents as a lesson and pursue internal self-correction and institutional reform with a determination to undertake painful self-reform."
At a senior aides' meeting he chaired at Cheong Wa Dae that day, President Lee said, "There must not be even the slightest gap in public security, which is responsible for protecting the safety of the people. However, the recent series of incidents has revealed that there are significant shortcomings in our public security system."
President Lee pointed out, "These incidents show that even when the vast majority of police officers are doing their best in the field, the misconduct of an extremely small number of individuals can create a major hole in the entire system."
He continued, "We need to comprehensively review the entire process of handling not only missing-person cases but all cases, to determine whether any existing practices or systems are flawed." He also instructed officials to "carefully examine, from the perspective of objective observers rather than from an insider's viewpoint, what was lacking and what needs to be improved, while taking into account the public's expectations and the victims' perspectives."
He added, "This is something I began after taking office last year. Thanks to the active efforts of the multinational crime task force (TF) involving the police, people in our country are feeling that voice phishing (vishing) crimes have declined significantly this year." He continued, "We must also turn the current situation into an opportunity arising from adversity for the sake of safer daily lives for the people."
