[Financial News] Hwang Ki-yeon, President of KEXIM, met with Gauranglal Das, the Indian Ambassador to Korea, at KEXIM's headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 3rd. During the meeting, Hwang and Ambassador Das exchanged broad views on bilateral economic issues and cooperation measures in strategic industries, including shipbuilding, shipping, and key mineral supply chains. Both sides focused on the direction of establishing local ecosystems in advanced manufacturing sectors, including shipbuilding and marine industries, in conjunction with the 'Make in India' policy, which the Indian government is prioritizing.
Recently, Korean companies have been exploring the possibility of entering the Indian shipbuilding market, including the construction of shipyards and integrated steel mills. In line with this, the progress of cooperation between the two countries was reviewed, and support measures for the successful local settlement of Korean companies were discussed in depth.
Both sides also explored ways to diversify their partnership beyond the shipbuilding and marine sectors to encompass future strategic industries, including critical minerals, digital and artificial intelligence (AI), and clean energy transition. Furthermore, they emphasized the need for supply chain security cooperation between India, which possesses major critical minerals such as abundant lithium reserves, and Korea, which is equipped with superior technological capabilities.
Hwang stated, "India is a key economic cooperation partner for Korea and a country with significant synergy in the manufacturing and high-tech sectors," adding, "We will continue to faithfully fulfill our role as a financial bridge to support the expansion of our companies into India across various strategic industries."
