【Financial News, Jeonju—Reporter Kang In】 The seventh GENIE Forum was held on the 3rd at the Fund Management Headquarters of the National Pension Service (NPS) in Jeonbuk Innovation City.
Co-hosted by Jeonbuk State, Jeonju-si, NPS, and KB Financial Group, the forum will run through the 4th under the theme “Rising Beyond Geopolitical Economic Volatility to Become a Global Asset Management Hub.”
Representatives from domestic and international financial institutions and asset management firms are taking part to share insights into changes in global financial markets and asset management strategies, while discussing ways to develop Jeonbuk’s financial industry.
The opening ceremony included the GENIE Award ceremony, which honors individuals who have contributed to the development of the financial industry. Jong-ryong Yim, chairman of Woori Financial Group, was honored with the award. Lee Jung-soo, president of Woori Financial Holdings, attended the ceremony and accepted it.
An awards ceremony for a mock investment competition for young people was also held. Lee Hong Ku, CEO of KB Securities, presented the awards and encouraged participants who achieved outstanding results through diligent market analysis and disciplined investing. The opening ceremony concluded with an opening performance and a commemorative photo session.
The Jeonbuk International Financial Conference (JIFIC), a key program of the forum, was also held. Under the theme “Asset Management Strategies in the Era of Geopolitical Inflation,” Chris Hogbin, CEO of Lazard Asset Management, delivered the keynote address and presented asset management strategies in response to changes in global financial markets.
Camille Blackburn, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)’s director general for the Asia-Pacific region, then delivered a special lecture. The participation of an overseas financial institution in the conference for the first time added significance to efforts to expand international financial networks.
At the panel discussion, moderated by Seokmo Yoon, head of the research center at Samsung Securities, Andy Budden of Capital Group, Andrew Sharp-Paul of Wellington Management, Kim Seung-beom, head of asset allocation at Mirae Asset Global Investments, and Park Jong-hak, CEO of Barings, discussed asset management strategies for responding to geopolitical uncertainty.
A business meetup between domestic financial and investment institutions—including Woori Bank, KB Financial Group, and JB Asset Management—and fintech startups was also held. An IR Demo Day gave startups the opportunity to introduce their innovative technologies and business models to investors.
Lee Won-taek, co-chair of the GENIE Forum organizing committee and governor of Jeonbuk State, said, “It is very meaningful that the GENIE Forum is growing year by year into a gathering of financial leaders from Korea and abroad.” He added, “We will use the discussions held today as a foundation for developing Jeonbuk’s financial industry.”
GENIE Forum stands for Global Emerging Network in Economy and refers to a new network connecting the global economy and financial sectors.
