The Next Step After Logistics Automation: Humanoids—CJ Logistics First in the Industry to Deploy Them

[Financial News] CJ Logistics is accelerating logistics automation by deploying humanoid robots for logistics operations for the first time in the industry.
CJ Logistics said on the 3rd that it had deployed two humanoid robots with two arms at the Yangji OLIVE YOUNG logistics center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The robots insert cushioning material into boxes on the packing line.
CJ Logistics plans to use work data accumulated during actual operations for further AI training, thereby improving the robots’ accuracy and responsiveness.
Humanoids are considered a key technology for overcoming the limitations of existing logistics automation equipment. Logistics centers handle countless products that differ in shape, size, and material, while working conditions continually vary depending on the products and orders. Humanoid robots can perform a variety of tasks while using existing workspaces.
CJ Logistics plans to expand the processes in which humanoids are used in stages. Starting with the insertion of cushioning material, the company aims to develop them into general-purpose logistics humanoids by expanding their roles to product picking, sorting, inspection, and packing.
Kim Jeong-hui, head of the CJ Logistics TES Logistics Technology Research Institute, said, "It is significant that humanoids have entered the stage of performing roles in actual logistics operations." Kim added, "We will continue developing them based on the vast amount of logistics data accumulated in the field."
