[Financial News] The Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority announced on the 3rd that Brett Stevenson, UPS's managing director in charge of external affairs for the Asia-Pacific region, visited the Authority and met with Chairman Park Seong-ho to discuss ways to promote air logistics by linking Gimhae International Airport with Gadeok Island New Airport.
UPS is a global integrated logistics company with a logistics network spanning more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. It provides services including international express delivery and air and multimodal freight transportation. To meet demand for international express services from exporters in Busan and Gyeongnam, the company is pursuing direct operation of dedicated cargo aircraft in the southern region using Gimhae International Airport.
The visit was arranged to review the progress of the international express air logistics project at Gimhae International Airport, which the Authority and UPS have been discussing, and to explore the possibility of medium- to long-term cooperation in air logistics linked to Gadeok Island New Airport.
The delegation included Brett Stevenson, managing director in charge of external affairs, as well as Seo Bo-guk, head of UPS Korea, and Kim Do-yeong, CEO of Daewoo Logistics. Daewoo Logistics is an integrated logistics company that operates logistics centers and terminals in the Ungdong hinterland complex and is pursuing cooperation with UPS in air-cargo-linked transportation.
After receiving a briefing on development in the Busan Jinhae Free Economic Zone and the status of multimodal logistics infrastructure linking the port and airport, the delegation met with Chairman Park.
The meeting covered the establishment of infrastructure for handling international express cargo at Gimhae International Airport, express customs clearance and operational infrastructure, medium- to long-term investment plans linked to Gadeok Island New Airport, and a cooperation framework among relevant agencies.
Chairman Park stated, "Once an international express logistics network is established using Gimhae International Airport, companies in Busan and Gyeongnam will be able to connect with global markets more quickly and efficiently." He added, "We will work closely with relevant agencies to ensure that UPS's air logistics project at Gimhae International Airport leads to actual investment and operations."
