These measures include allowing the retroactive submission of unsubmitted documents in the event of computer errors during the application process. In addition, a special admissions track outside the regular quota will be established to promote linked education between specialized high schools and junior colleges and to expand opportunities for advancement, and criteria for exceptions to the residency requirement for the rural and fishing village special admissions track will also be created.
The Korean Council of Junior Colleges announced on the 3rd that it has prepared the 'Basic Guidelines for Junior College Admissions for the 2029 Academic Year' containing these details following deliberation by the Junior College Admissions Committee. The Korean Council of Junior Colleges finalized and announced the agenda on the 28th of last month.
These basic guidelines focus on facilitating convenience for applicants and strengthening the fairness and transparency of the admissions process. Universities are required to establish response measures to minimize disadvantages to applicants in the event of system failures during the application period. For the special admissions for rural students, criteria have also been improved to prevent disadvantages arising from residency requirements after acceptance; this allows prospective graduates to be exceptionally recognized as eligible if they meet the residency requirements by the registration date for early or regular admissions.
Access to higher education for vocational high school graduates is also expanding. A new "Special Admission for Graduates of Specialized High Schools Outside of Quota" has been established to allow graduates of specialized high schools and general high schools to apply to junior colleges in the same field, with specific eligibility requirements and operational criteria.
The basic framework of the admissions process maintains existing principles to ensure consistency and stability. When selecting students, the number of admission methods is limited to four for early admissions and four for regular admissions, based on five core screening elements: student records, the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), interviews, practical skills tests, and documents. The names of special admission categories also retain the seven standard names, such as General High School, Specialized High School, Equal Opportunity, and Talented Students, to ensure that students, parents, and teachers can clearly identify the types of admissions.
The admissions schedule remains the same as before, consisting of two rounds of early admissions and one round of regular admissions. Applications for the first round of early admissions will be accepted from September 11 to 29, 2028, and for the second round from November 10 to 24. Applications for regular admissions will be accepted from January 2 to 16, 2029.
