[Financial News] Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on the 3rd that it would showcase the “real-time port-crane wire-rope defect diagnosis system,” jointly developed with Enkia, at the “2026 Korea International Construction & Industrial Safety Expo,” held from the 2nd to the 4th.
The wire-rope diagnostic system uses magnetic-field-change detection and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to diagnose defects in port-crane wire ropes in real time. Wire rope is a critical component used to lift and lower containers during crane operations. Because damage can lead to equipment shutdowns and safety accidents, early diagnosis and preventive maintenance are essential.
Conventional wire-rope inspections relied on visual checks, limiting the ability to identify internal defects or the progression of damage at an early stage.
The technology collects data on magnetic-field changes occurring in wire ropes and uses AI analysis to identify abnormal signs. This helps minimize equipment shutdowns and supports maintenance decisions.
BPA and Enkia have pursued the technology’s development and field testing while reflecting conditions at the Port of Busan. Through these efforts, they have improved the precision and field applicability of safety management for cargo-handling equipment.
Through the expo, BPA plans to introduce to industry the safety technology developed and verified at port sites and highlight the potential for expanding AI-based safety technology in Korea’s shipping and port sectors.
