GC Green Cross Wellbeing's 'Tapencarium' Succeeds in Phase 3 Clinical Trial in China... Accelerating Commercialization of Fat-Dissolving Injectable

[Financial News] Raziel Therapeutics, a partner of GC Green Cross Wellbeing, has confirmed the efficacy and safety of its lipolytic injectable candidate 'Tapencarium' in Phase 3 clinical trials in China. With clinical evidence secured to enter the Chinese approval process, commercialization both domestically and internationally is expected to accelerate.
GC Green Cross Wellbeing announced on the 3rd that Raziel Therapeutics had secured top-line results meeting the primary efficacy and safety evaluation criteria in the Phase 3 clinical trial of Tapencarium conducted in China.
This pivotal clinical trial was conducted by Tianjin Juvestar Biotech Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd., in China, involving 480 adult patients with double chins. A pivotal trial is the final stage for confirming a drug's actual therapeutic efficacy and safety for approval.
Tapencarium met both the primary and secondary efficacy endpoints established 84 days after administration with just a single treatment cycle. In particular, the primary endpoint showed a difference of more than 30 percentage points in the fat-reduction response rate compared with the placebo group. The company explained that safety was also confirmed alongside a statistically significant fat-reduction effect.
Based on these results, Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd. and Raziel Therapeutics plan to apply to the NMPA for product approval. They also plan to conduct additional clinical trials to expand the treatment areas, starting with double chins and extending to the abdomen and thighs.
Tapencarium is a novel drug candidate that reduces fat by selectively destroying fat cells. It is being developed with the goal of achieving therapeutic effects with fewer sessions than existing lipolysis procedures, as a body-contouring treatment that reduces fat in specific areas without surgery.
Recently, demand has also been growing for managing fat in specific areas or body shape after weight loss using GIP/GLP-1 dual agonists. In line with these market changes, GC Green Cross Wellbeing plans to develop Tapencarium into a body-contouring product that can be used in conjunction with weight-loss treatment.
GC Green Cross Wellbeing has secured the exclusive domestic development and commercialization rights for Tapencarium and is maintaining its cooperative relationship with Raziel Therapeutics through a strategic equity investment. The company expects the results of the Phase 3 clinical trial in China to have a positive impact on domestic commercialization efforts and the expansion of its product portfolio in the obesity and medical aesthetics fields.

"As demand for body contouring expands alongside growth in the obesity-treatment market, we will build a business portfolio connecting obesity treatment and medical aesthetics based on Tapencarium."
